My info

One of the masterwork from Haiko Ruttmann. I remember that I played this game very long time only because of the music (hehe I don't like turn based strategies very much). And it still rocks!

    Maybe his best work. Great.

Btw on the Bi2 CD the first audio track is not in the Midi archive. I dont remember if this music was maybe used in the intro? Maybe someone could record that track as midi too?

  • "Best memories.." (by zomg111, 25 Jul 2007) [10/10]
Another gem turned up here. Same as for the first review author i must say i m not biggest fan of turn based strategy, but must also confess that this game was still quite impressive to me, fantastic (to a great part thx to the music), and also great for hot seat multiplayer so we spend countless hours with battle isle 2..

Browsing through the files i got currently stuck at track 14, will take me some time to move on to another ;)
I got a little confused due to the description that the midis in the archive are somehow "incorrect", they sound fine to me.
For playback on my Audigy2 i use Milton Paredes Airfont-340; very enjoyable but if anyone thinks he can recommend an even better free soundfont let me know please.

  • "Note for the correct pitch" (by Verbatim, 26 Sep 2013) [8/10]
the Jogrwai.mid contains the midi controller RPN Pitch Bend Sensetivity Value:1536, in the other tracks this important controller is missing, especially for the overdrive and disortion parts

if wanted I can offer a correction of the actual collection

i never played this game, but i love some tracks of this Midi OST, early i heard it over xmiplay via FM synth.

Facts / description

This info sent me WKjun about this archive:
The MIDI files extracted from BI2 are unaccurate (wrong pitch). There has been a recent addition to this 100% finished archive called "Jogrwai.MID". You may notice it is the same MIDI File as the first one "01 - Battle Isle 2.MID" but played back differently (correct). So the Jogrwai.MID is the correct file and this is how the other files should be.
I remember playing the game with my SB AWE32 in General MIDI mode and enjoying the better music instead of OPL3 SB16 mode. To achieve correct playback of the MIDI Files the game has to be started with an extension called "/sync" or so... it calibrated the soundcard for GM playback and the music was fine.
Manually extracted files had flaws and I don't know how to correct without the game.

Other tools

Generate info.txt - with this cool feature you can generate the info.txt file with all tune information and save it somewhere, which means you'll have something like "tune ID card"! :) This has cool advantages - it's small, fastly readable/editable, you can add it to the tune archive if you want and you will have everytime fast information about the game and music archive. Also programs which support reading from txt files (such as KBMedia Player) can read the info.txt file directly while playing tunes of all formats!
